I Against I by Bad Brains

“I Against I” by Bad Brains

This one’s for you Bad Brains fanatics.  The belatedly released Omega Sessions EP was recorded in 1980—before the epic Bad Brains ROIR cassette, but after the Inner Ear sessions that would eventually be released as Black Dots.  I’ve listened to this record over and over again and it shocks me just how amazing this band was, years before they were able to put out a record.  How were these guys not the biggest act of the ’80s?

The hardcore genre for me is one of the most important things for me in my life. This sounds cliche, but it truly is. It started off with the Suicidal Tendencies and Biohazard CD’s my stepdad’s friends have given me as a kid and it just grew from there. I’ve had my metal obsessions and that shitty

pop-punk phase. Metal will always be great to me because I grew up with it along with hardcore. From old bands like Minor Threat, to newer local bands that are just starting out, I love it all. The whole scene, the people, the lyrics, the riffs. It’s not just a phase, it’s not just a trend. Everything in my life I can relate someway through hardcore. Hardcore has helped me through hard times in the way that it pushes me to persevere (even if it’s just hateful, or even positive). Anyway, I get so pissed when I see people going in and out of this like it’s some kind of game.  This will never get old for me.

ALSO, don’t fucking tell me I can’t like it because I’m a girl or because I’m “too young to understand”. Fuck you. There ARE girls who TRULY respect it, and if you are any type of fan you’d be happy there’s a generation willing to listen.
